Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation
The NRAO is a partner in the Virginia-North Carolina Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation. The Alliance supports increasing the number of underrepresented students earning baccalaureate degrees in STEM disciplines and continuing on to graduate school. As one of eleven partners, the NRAO typically offers a unique, STEM-focused training experience open to students from all of the VA-NC Alliance schools.

Summer Research/Training Experiences - The experiences vary but all include intense, focused training in a fundamental STEM skill (e.g. Python training) with an introduction to research applications. The experiences may be condensed into a single week or offered over a number of weeks, and may be in-person, virtual, or a combination. These opportunities are open to all students from any of the VA-NC Alliance partners.
The experiences offered by NRAO are funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation to support the Virginia-North Carolina Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (VA-NC Alliance) program (NSF grant # 1712724). To learn more about this program please click here.
